Dr. Karen Habitzreuther, a.k.a. Dr. H to the team, dreamed of being a veterinarian since she was four years old as she watched her horse and others being treated at the stable where her horse was boarded. A native New Yorker, she was raised on the North Shore of Staten Island. She graduated from Wagner College with a Baccalaureate Degree in English and later attended a 2-year post-baccalaureate program, was accepted to medical school, and received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. She also simultaneously pursued a Master of Public Health degree there with a concentration on epidemiology and infectious diseases.
Dr. H. has an unparalleled love for animals and a passion to serve them. While she enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, she has special interests in integrative, complementary, and multi-modal medicine approaches, the human-animal bond, One Health, and is specially trained in fear free handling techniques.
Dr. H. lives in Fairfax, VA with her husband and their two dogs Advitiya, who is from Antigua, and Damon, an Akita puppy from Wyoming. Her spare time interests are immersion travel, experiencing other cultures, scuba diving, hiking with the dogs on the Appalachian Trail (and others), bicycle and motorcycle riding, movies and music, watching Jeopardy!, and crossword, zigsaw, and Sudoku puzzling.
